With this we can use adb like nougat flash full rom? Same comands? Lock bootloader etc?

Basically yes.check the flashfile.xml inside the zip, it shows what should be flashed and the order. It should be similar to nougat. I'm curious where this full firmware comes from.

yes, I followed the order in flashfile.xml and updated to this image ROM successfully

Can someone post the exact commands needed for flashing? I can't figure out the exact commands from the file.

Sorry if I'm being dumb, but I'm having a couple issues. No specific folder then?

I don't have such an app.

1) Nope - it seems that copying the OTA file to the top of the internal storage (alongside the Download, Alarms etc. folders) works. 2)In Settings>Apps, tap the 3 dots in the top right corner and tap 'Show system'. The Motorola update services should appear then.

Be aware that this update may require NPNS25.137-92-14 (I've not seen the EU/US/APAC OTA released yet), so if you're from the US or have a non-Brazil/non-Indian device, this update may fail to be applied.

Reactions: Ste11a

My retus is NPNS25.137-93-14. If NPNS25.137-92-14 may be required then I guess there will be a different OTA file for EU/US/APAC? Unless Lenovo releases the lower number update NPNS25.137-92-14 to make the OTA compatible with EU/US/APAC?

bootloader unlock after oreo

Sir I have upgraded to oreo and my build number is opsOPS28.85-13 . I likes to unlock bootloader . When I go through the forum everything is written for stock or for custom roms. Is it ok to follow the normal procedure? or should I need to do something in particular?

Updated this morning not via recovery. Download this update for moto g5+ then placed in internel storage after that check for update then it automatically started update process.

And the main thing in this update is that it restore or repair baseband or presist which is responsible for network.

The ROM is 32 or 64 bits?

Hello, First of all i don't have persist of my device because without searching/reading on xda i flashed custom oreo than again flash stock 7.0,due to this i lost network. I applied a trick which is on xda ofcourse. Flashed stock zip via twrp and than flash orignal firmware via command line without erasing modem files and got my network. After that searching on xda found this post, starting the procedure not knowing that what will happened to network. After reboot my baseband version changes from "e" to "r". I read somewhere that "e" means corrupted persist, "r" means everything ok.

Sorry for long post. ?

I have downloaded Blur_Version 28.51.16 on my Moto G5Plus. If the file is really deleted (double check that) it should be enough to revoke the storage permission for Motorola Update System. The original OTA will be stored in cache so the update system doesn't need that permission anymore.

This trick will work when your device has unlocked bootloader . I wish you have. Steps 1. Unlock bootloader 2. Flash twrp 3. Download stock rom.zip (android 7.0 rom) transfer in phone internel storage. 4. Flash stock rom. Hope you get your signal if not than download and flash custom oreo rom now you get your signal (LTE also). 5. " IMPORTANT " now boot to twrp and backup your modem files ( something like efs). 6. Now flash stock 7.0 rom. 7. And flash efs. ( you get signal now).

"Note = if you try to flash rom via fastboot or try to lock bootloader remember do not flash any clear modem commands. " doing this remove signals.

So this OTA is not the same of BR and India release? PAC, US and EU are on the "same channel"?

The starting point is different, but the end point is the same. This requires you to be on 93-14, the India/Brazil release requires you to be on 92-14. They both end up at the same point, after which there shouldn't be any differences (hopefully ever again).

Edit - and yes, APAC, US, and EU are on the "same channel/build" in Nougat.

Ok a bit of feedback, not a power user, but used custom roms a lot previous to G5 Plus. Never felt the need to use custom with this phone, it just did what I wanted, localcast solved the big screen problem, Nova launcher did the rest for me. Thanks to NZedPred who supplied the update for NPNS25-137-93-14, which covers Great Britain, United States of America, Europe and Pacific Area which worked without any issue by putting downloaded blur file in root of internal memory, no special file explorer needed, just stop moto updater and change permission for storage, again nothing special required. Tap manual update and it finds update file, as stated takes 20-25 minutes to install. This update does not change your life, make you better looking or richer, but as a visual improvement its nice and of course more current coding. With updates not sure I need Nova launcher, I'll wait and see. Regards Ray

Works great on retus and I'm loving the new Substratum Andromeda support

So glad Andromeda works! I haven't updated it yet, because I saw andromeda on the play store is saying it's incompatible, but that might just be because I'm still on 7.0.

If Moto US gives us no new news on updates by October 20th, I'm just going to use this zip. I already have it downloaded, because I know they're not going to do anything.

Did it on a MOTO G5 plus RETEU. Followed the steps with no troubles, let's see how this Oreo 8.1 works.

Hope it will improve battery time.

Is it really safe to use this update on retus (XT1687)? A couple of weeks back it was noted that in the U.S. they are still running soak tests. The latest build for the soak test is different than this one (OPS28.85-13 for this one vs. OPS28.85-17 for the latest soak test in the U.S.).

FWIW, in the US the "soak test" is still going on... They just got Build Number OPS28.85-17 and a kernel dated Sept 12 earlier this week.

By applying this build to a retus device I fear that future updates may be impossible as the update server may detect that the device has a build that was never released for retus. So it would not be able to apply the patches to update to future builds for retus.

I may be wrong on this, and this may not apply to other regions. I just wanted to bring up this point. I'm desperate to update to Oreo because of issues with UI crashes that I'm having with Nougat, but to be safe, I will wait a little longer.

You have a good point there. It does appear though (in so far as we can tell by the update OTAs and their required version) that they are unifying the builds for all channels. It may be that the US gets a different OTA at some point, but one would hope that all other regions would end up on the same build as well. If that's the case, there will be OTAs that would take you from OPS28.85-13 to whatever the future update is.

I don't see why it would stop OTAs but worse case scenario, the updates will just have to be sideloaded

I don't see why it would stop OTAs but worse case scenario, the updates will just have to be sideloaded

It would stop OTA's because each OTA update patches only the differences between the build on your device and the build for the update. That's the reason why most minor OTA updates are only anywhere between a few dozen megabytes to a few hundred. The Oreo update is around 1GB whereas a full Oreo build is several gigabytes. If you are on a build not released for your region, I doubt that the update server and / or Moto update app will guess that a previous OTA was used for a different region and update you to the next build for that different region. From the screenshots that I've seen those who updated retus using the OTA from another region still showed the software channel as retus. So the question is not "if" OTA's would stop, it is what build retus ends up on after the soak tests. If it is different than the build of the manually applied OTA, OTA's will most likely stop (though as I said I can't state this with 100% certainty). It is logical to think that if retus is on a different build than the other region, and a retus patch is applied to that build, the patch would fail. It most likely checks for the build on the device and only updates to the next build if it can do so properly. Not doing so would put your device in an inconsistent state.

But as you said, future updates could be sideloaded. Just keep your fingers crossed that someone captures each future update.

Can someone confirm, that substratum (with or without Andromeda) is fully working on stock Oreo (Settings and notifications)? I´m rooted on 7.0 and substratum (Swift Black) is working with all apps but not for settings and notifications. I would like to have full substratum support, on the other hand good sound is very important for me. On 7.0 I have Viper4android and Dolby_Atmos®_Classic_Lenovo_A7000 (plus AML) running and the sound is perfect.

I´m testing soundmods on my other devices, Viper is no problem and depending on the Magisk version DolbyAtmos_Axon7_Oreo is working too but the sound is not as good as on stock 7.0 on my potter.

will it work for previous BRICKED devices that need to use Moto Z bootloader?

now i'm on sandy-stock-debloat-v2 build number.

Restart phone, powering off lets storage permissions too correctly find update.

So does it make a difference if my channel says amz, being an Amazon Amazon phone? Thinking this is my problem.

If you're referring to the pre release tag in the kernel version, this looks likely to be referring to the software compiler (a pre release GCC compiler) used to build the kernel. It does not necessarily mean the software is pre release. Also, the fact that these Oreo builds are flashing to retail devices not on the soak test further suggests this is the intended build. If you're on a US device, up to you if you wish to flash this leaked OTA as there appears to be another build for US ( but that might be the Sept 2018 security build patch?)

It's entirely possible, AMZ firmwares are slightly different to the retail firmwares and as such retail OTA updates may not flash onto your device. You'd likely have to wait for Amazon to roll out the update.

Thanks for that - that's odd. I've downloaded the OTA from NZedPred's Dropbox link and I see nothing unusual. From the OTA updater script, this OTA is clearly for NPNS25.137-93-14 (the fact that your updater is recognising the OTA update is also evidence of this):

Package expects build thumbprint of 8.1.0/OPS28.85-13/b8ea:user/release-keys or 7.0/NPNS25.137-93-14/16:user/release-keys

I'm not sure where the updater is pulling that build number from, given it doesn't match the OTA Blur_version number either. From the included script, this is an applicable update, though might be worth seeing if anyone experiences this, or perhaps wait for the US OTA to roll out if you can afford to wait any longer. Perhaps try re-downloading the update, verify the file size and md5 and try again?

I saw that wrong number in update notification, looks like they used the blur reference number as the build number, anyway have not had a single issue, Bluetooth, nfc, 4G and wireless which some users reportedly seem to be interferring with each other have had no problems and are permanently left on.

You don't have to be rooted to check your internal storage. On the contrary, if you are rooted the ota will fail. The root folder is storage/emulated/0, just the main internal memory.

Oh. In that case I put it in the right place. I suppose I expected to be looking for a folder named 'root'. My bad.....

This version number (28.51.16) you will see only on start, after update it will be 28.85.13.
Tested on 25.137-93-14 RETEU version in Russia.

Good, only difference is I am retus, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Xt1680 mexico

Hi, im from mexico, my moto g5 plus XT1680 is on attmx channel, its take a while they push the ota, what its the correct file that i can put on my moto, tnks

I've successfully updated my RETUS XT1687 from NPNS25.137-93-14 to OPS28.85-13 using the OTA zip posted by NZedPred. Everything seems to be working fine so far. The update process took about 40 minutes. So far, Oreo seems very smooth on this hardware. All of my carrier services seem to be functioning as they did before the update. The G5 Plus wasn't officially available in the Canadian market, so there are a couple small quirks, but nothing new. Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to the forums and looking for some direction on the 8.1 G5plus update. I d/l'ed the US zip file and followed the steps. I also restref my phone but it still doesn't seem to recognize the file? I keep getting the "Your device's software is up to date" message. Software channel is retus. Build NPNS25. 137-93-14 Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

Just to confirm:

1) you've downloaded the OTA from NZedPred's post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77856408&postcount=45 (either the Dropbox link or the Android file host link) and not the OTA file from the first post in this thread? Despite the en.us suffix, this does not necessarily mean this update is for US devices. You'd need the appropriate OTA as listed in post 45 for US devices.

2) the OTA file (as a zip) had been copied to the top folder of your internal storage (along side the download, music, alarms folders)?

3) you've given the Motorola update services storage permissions?

Thank you for the quick reply, I missed the copying into the internal storage ?. Just finished the update and everything seems to be stable and running fine.

Thanks again ?

I just received this notification, also. I checked earlier this morning, and it said that my system was up to date, so this must have been released in the last few hours. This can probably mean only one of two things: They are putting retus on this build in order begin rolling out the update to Oreo (if the Oreo update was previously built coming from this build number). -or- They know that it will be a while before Oreo will be ready for retus, and they are going ahead and releasing the August security patches.

I hope that it is not the second case. For this reason I will not apply this update. If Motorola takes too long to release Oreo for retus, I will manually install the Oreo update from NPNS25.137-93-14 that was previously posted. I know that it will probably mean not getting future updates (if retus ends up on a different Oreo build), but I'm really getting tired of waiting. I have an issue with frequent system UI crashes that seems to have started after the update to NPNS25.137-93-14 (at least that's when I began to notice it). It happens even when running in safe mode, so it is not because of any third-party apps. So I will not be waiting for them to push Oreo much longer.

XT 1687 Retus retail US Today i took the update hoping that I would get the Oreo update. There was an update but it was just a security update, and I didn't make much notice of the version number.

How can I check the full firmware version? I looked all through about phone and security. Checking for updates just tells me it's up to date.

I got the notification just now, and I agree with all of what you said. At first I said I would wait until the 20th to install this if there was no new news, but after this, I'm gonna wait until November. However, (just in case) 93-18 is going to be completely skipped for now.

I also took the update on 'retus' and now I am on NPNS25.137-93-18. It may be wierd and I don't expect Oreo until December (latest update on Lenovo US forum site was September 28th for G5plus Oreo, and October 10th for October security update), but I wanted to make sure I got the final post-soak build. The August security patch notes were published on their site on August 21 so 8 week delay from notes posting to update push to my IMEI. If the 9/28 Oreo update note is non-soak test, then that would be November 23, but who knows aside from Lenovo at this point.

EDIT: there was also a note on 8/10 for the August 1 security update so the dates may be even farther out (9 weeks plus).

So from the sound of it... SCREWED? Because I installed the August security patch update? I take it affects it, right...?

Yes, so you'll have to wait for the US official Oreo if you want to do it through OTA.

Other alternative is to use Fastboot. There's another thread around that shows how to do that.

A bit off topic, and not the end of the world, but does anyone know how to stop this STUPID update notification (93-18) from popping up every 2 seconds WITHOUT a 'not right now' button?

Go into Settings -> Developer options. There is an option for "Automatic system updates". Turn it off. You also may need to go into Settings -> Apps and select "Show system" from the menu. Find "Motorola Update Services" and force stop it if it is running.

This worked for me.

When I follow the instructions in the opening post, the only update I am presented with is the August security patch update. Does anyone know how to get it to ignore that security update and instead install the Oreo update?

I made the mistake of taking the US August security update which put me at NPNS25-137-93-18. Then I found this downloadable update to oreo. I downloaded it to root directory, set storage permission for Motorola update and tried manual update - says I'm up to date

Android 8.1 0 moto g5 plus
Tried power off/on and manual update again - still no good, says I'm up to date. Any thoughts on why it's not finding the update file? Is it because I'm at 93-18?

Edit: OK, it was a dumb user error. When it downloaded it went to Internal Storage, not root. However, tried moving it to root but there is not enough space - only shows .8 gig available. But it shows internal storage with 48.2 GB free. Is it possible to shrink internal storage allocation without having root?

Edit 2: So it seems that I've gone completely brain dead and, reading the beginning of this post again, realized that I was right in the first place with it in Internal Storage. (Been away from this for too long.) So I'm back to my original question - why isn't it finding the update? Is it doing a pre-req check before even trying to install and failing to find an update since I'm at 93-18? Thoughts anyone???

You're now on build number NPNS25-137-93-18 after taking the OTA for the August security patches. You needed to still be on build number NPNS25-137-93-14 in order to be able to use the OTA zip file provided by NZedPred in post #45.

Unfortunately it appears that the information for this update is cached somewhere on the device after it is retrieved from Lenovo's servers . I have not taken the update, but I tried turning off WiFi and cellular data and force stopping and clearing the cache for "Motorola Update Services". Even with no network connection, checking for system updates still gives me information about this update. And it ignores the zip file if it is present (the update from the servers seems to take priority).

Probably the only way to get around this is to perform a factory reset and immediately apply the zip before connecting to the Internet. Hopefully this would work. Unless someone else knows where this update information is stored on the device and how to delete it.

Before I had disabled 'automatic developer updates, and that cause the August security update notification to stop, but now it's back, and it seems like Moto is forcing this update. The "No, not now" button has left as well. I have to use recents to tell it no, and then it just returns 5 minutes later! I'm beginning to think that I should just update to 93-18 just so it will shut up.

Lost network and VOLTE after updating

Previously I lost VOLTE when i returned to stock nougat after flashing oreo ROMs. I managed to fix it the baseband version ended with e. Now i flashed, 92-14 stock ROM and then updated to Oreo. After updating my imei is 0 on both SIMs and i dont get network or VOLTE. How can i fix this?

That's strange, for me the notification does have the "No, maybe later" button. One thing that I have noticed is that if I reboot the device, I have to force stop the "Motorola Update Services" app again. If not, I get the notification. But as long as "Automatic system updates" is disabled it doesn't keep bothering me.

I'm not getting signal on my sim atm. No 4G or volte. I messed up the phone so much that it seems impossible to get back signal on my phone. IMEI is not 0 but there is no signal. Is there any way i can get back my signal? Any help is appreciated.

That,s why you need soak test 1, it restores phone modem software.

Android 8.1 0 moto g5 plus

I have fastboot version of stock Oreo ROM. Will that be of any use? Btw i lost signal and volte after updating to Oreo from Nougat.

No, only flashing the TWRP flashable soak 1 seems to fix the network problem. You'll have to say goodbye to fastboot ROMs.

Ok i got my network and volte working as of now. But i think once i return to stock it'll be gone. For now, I'll stick around with custom ROMs. I flashed NOS when I lost network after returning to stock. I lost my network when i upgraded from stock nougat to oreo. So i flashed NON-HLOS.bin file from 92-14 fastboot folder and then erased modemst 1 and 2. After that i booted into twrp and flashed the old EFS file i had backed up when my VOLTE was working.

When I rebooted twrp, i got signal and volte and everything is working fine. The only problem is that the baseband version ends with 47a. But i guess that's not a big deal since I got my network back. I'll stick to custom ROMs till there is a solution to this problem.

Are you saying the OTA Oreo update can be applied over the 93.18 via fastboot? Really need to know because the August update screwed my phone - major battery drain - and evidently I"m not alone (many complaints found searching the web). I thought those of us who installed the August security update had to wait for retus OTA update availability. Can you please clarify... Thanks.......

Thanks for the info. I knew that I could fastboot flash a full rom but didn't know I could flash an update zip. Do you know if I follow the same procedure as flashing a full rom or do I have to find a downlevel nougat full rom to fastboot flash?

Before I knew there was a retus package for NPNS25.137-93-14, I installed the update to NPNS25.137-93-18, and now the packages obviously won't work. Is there a chance that an updated package will be made for retus that supports the new update or will I have to dreadfully wait for the official Moto OTA?

You can't fastboot flash a OTA update, you need the full ROM. Here's one from page 1 of this thread, as far as I know it's the version for India (if there's a different Oreo firmware for India, it was like this with Nougat, maybe Motorola changed that)

Oh, ok, thanks. I didn't look at the file size and for some reason I thought that was a copy of the OTA update file. Many thanks....

Edit: So I went back and reread the first post and my initial understanding was right. I had downloaded the update file for potter (blur......) which appears to be different from the India full ROM that is linked there. I downloaded a 93-10 full ROM and think I'll try fastboot flashing that. With any luck that will work and get me back to a valid pre-August update level that will at least stop the battery drain issue.

Yeah, if you fastboot flash that, you should be able to use the nonfastboot OTA zip file for retus to update to Oreo using adb sideload.

Hi to all did someone knows where i can know when amazon updates mi phone, it´s a G5 Plus.

After a lot of work I finally got NPNS25137-93-18 off my phone and am back to NPNS25137-93-14. For those of you who are as disgusted as I was with the terrible battery drain 93-18 introduced, here's what I did to get back to 93-14:

 1. Backup - Backup - Backup
 2. Download and fastboot flash full NPNS25137-93-10 ROM.. There are several places where it is posted for download including instructions for flashing. One place is here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/npns25...eps_to_InstallNPNS25137-93-10_on_Moto_G5_Plus NOTE: This WILL wipe your phone and you'll be back to reset status so make sure you've backed up your data prior to executing this step. If in doubt, see step 1.
 3. Force an OTA update to get NPNS25137-93-14. Initially when I tried this it said something like "update service not available" but after waiting a bit it worked just fine.
 4. Re-enable Developer Options and disable Automatic Updates (this is to prevent prompt to install NPNS25137-93-18!)
 5. Reinstall any apps / data and you're back in business.
If you want to install the OTA 8.1 update just follow the instructions @NZedPred provided back around page 5 of this thread.

After my experience backing off the August Nougat update (it took forever to get everything setup again despite having backuups, etc.) I have the OTA file downloaded to my internal storage and if I force an update the phone does see the file and ask if I want to install but I want to install TWRP and do a full system backup before I try installing it. Does anyone know if the OTA update will install if TWRP is installed? I don't care if TWRP gets overwritten. I'd just like to be able to do a straight OTA installation rather than have to sideload. Thanks......

Oreo upgrade

Can I use this for moto g4 plus as I am facing an issue that my phone is switching off automatically many times and suddenly the battery comes down..

Actually, Once I have used redmi 2 prime software in redmi 2 for volte support and it runned successfully and it also got upgraded to lollipop after. Like that, is there any possibility of running moto g5 plus software in moto g4 plus?

Just updated with the zip. Everything is ok. Thanks.

If the firmware on the phone is not stock the OTA update will probably fail. You don't need to flash TWRP to do a backup. You can boot TWRP without flashing it. Just execute fastboot boot twrp.img instead of fastboot flash recovery twrp.img.

I didn't realize that twrp could be booted without installing. Learn something new every day. Many thanks!!

Well, the saga continues. I've never had so much trouble doing an update. Here's the chronology:

 • Verified that update service has storage access
 • Execute force system update
 • Update file is found
 • Phone copies update
 • I select "Install"
 • Package processes
 • Phone restarts
 • Circle with "Installing system update" progress line displays for a few seconds
 • Bang - get the dreaded dead android solder Error!
 • Wait for a bit and phone reboots and I get notification that the update failed.
I tried downloading a fresh copy of the update package from Pg. 5 but still no luck. I should also note that I have Automatic Updates disabled to prevent 93-18 installation but I would assume that has nothing to do with the issues I'm having. I verified that the build number is still NPNS25.137-93-14. Anybody with any thoughts on where to go next?
Thanks....

Yup, understand that. But 93.18 is garbage so at this point all I want to do is get to 8.1 and since this is an OTA from a compatible region I have no concerns about using it if I can just get it to load.

My moto G5 plus XT1686 is stuck at logo. Than i flash Official G5 Plus Android 8.1 Oreo OTA ZIP files [OPS28.85-13] successfully but mobile stuck on logo too. I don't know any of what the "(bootloader)" stuff is, but you don't flash the OTA. You put it in Internal storage, give Moto Update services storage permission, and check for updates.

Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs

Can i flash it via adb sideload Or via Sd card?

Yup, understand that. But 93.18 is garbage so at this point all I want to do is get to 8.1 and since this is an OTA from a compatible region I have no concerns about using it if I can just get it to load.

You can try reflashing 93-14 then applying the Oreo OTA update again. Try using the Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant to download the 93-14 firmware:

https://support.lenovo.com/br/en/downloads/ds101291

After your phone is detected (it may take a couple of minutes if you are first running the program) go to "Flash" then choose "Rescue". Then select "Motorola" and "XT1687". The screen will display the current firmware for the device. A few days ago it was still showing the 93-14 firmware, and hopefully they haven't updated it to 93-18 yet. Click on the download icon to start the download. After it has downloaded you can flash directly from here or you can get the firmware from the C:\ProgramData\LMSA\Download\RomFiles folder to flash with fastboot. It may be a good idea to copy the firmware from this folder and save it in case Lenovo updates the servers to 93-18. I have a backup copy of the 93-14 firmware that I will upload in a few days if this doesn't work for you (my upload speed is very slow).

Try applying the OTA zip immediately after booting and setup. I have found that sometimes even the slightest change to the partitions by TWRP will cause an OTA to fail, so try not to go into TWRP before applying the update.

I highly recommend updating to Oreo, and I don't know why Lenovo is holding this up from retus. I haven't experienced any issues, and the performance is much better, as others have stated.

I downloaded the fresh copy of 93-14, although I suspect that it's the same as the one that I previously used to back out of 93-18. It took quite a bit of work to get everything reinstalled and configured after the 93-18 debacle so I'm a bit reluctant to do a flash that will reset me back to ground zero again. Also, just to note, TWRP is not installed on the phone. I only did a flashboot boot so that I could get a good, complete system backup so I don't think TWRP did anything else to affect the partitions. I think my next step will be to try to sideload the update. If that doesn't work I'll probably bite the bullet and do as you suggest or perhaps modify the 93-14 package to eliminate data destruction. Thanks....

Edit: Sideload failed but at least now I have some info as to why it's failing:

E2004: oem partition fails to recover...oem has been remounted R/W and has changed the partition contents...Partition contents should not be changed for successful updates;reflash device to enable OTA updates e:error in /sideload/package.zip (status 7)

I would assume that when I ran TWRP backup it remounted the partition and caused the problem as @rl_2015 noted. I guess I'm stuck starting from scratch again. Yuck.........

Edit #2: Well, good fortune finally. Rather than doing a straight flash of 93-14, I fastboot flashed it and omitted the 'normal' step of erasing user data. I then forced an system update using the OTA 8.1 file and all went well. Success at last.

Many, many thanks to all who helped me......

Hi - have you tried using Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant as @rl_2015 suggested to me to help resolve my problem?

At what point did it fail? If you couldn't even download 93-14 code you can try the following, but I don't know if it will work since your bootloader is locked:
 • Download and fastboot flash full NPNS25137-93-10 ROM.. There are several places where it is posted for download including instructions for flashing. One place is here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/npns25-...n_Moto_G5_Plus
 • Force an OTA update to get NPNS25137-93-14. Initially when I tried this it said something like "update service not available" but after waiting a bit it worked just fine.
 • Re-enable Developer Options and disable Automatic Updates (this is to prevent prompt to install NPNS25137-93-18!)
 • Reinstall any apps / data and you're back in business.

No body can understanding my problem

Sad news. After half month after updating to Moto G5 Plus (Blur_Version.28.51.16.potter.retail.en.US.zip) I bought Sony 1000XM3 and was very disappointed. LDAC codec is not working, not manually, not automatically.

I have cheap chinese smartphone (sort of home phone), on which I installed AOSP 8.1 Android. And my Sony bluetooth headphones are using LDAC codec on it.

Small file for g5

Why the moto g5 zip file is so small? Its only 148 mb or something.

You said that you were unable to "fastboot oem unlock". Are you saying that you can't even get into fastboot mode?

My mobile fastboot mode is working well recovery mode is also working when I flash Oreo ROM it flashed successfully but my mobile is stuck at logo and power off after a while when I flash ROM it's show in CMD prompt but no activity in mobile. All file flashed accurately write system accurately sending system accurately and ask ok but after flashing ROM mobile is stuck at logo not going to normal system its look like it has hardware problem

Although everything seemed to have gone ok when you initially applied the OTA update, it seems that something didn't go quite right. If you were working fine on nougat and didn't have any problems until you did the OTA update to oreo I doubt that you coincidentally experienced a hardware problem. Have you tried to adb sideload the Oreo update file? If not, I think that's the first thing I'd try. That will reinstall the update and hopefully resolve your issue. If that doesn't work, the next question is: Did you take a full system backup before you applied the OTA update? If you did, then I'd restore from that (after insuring that you have a backup of your EFS and Persist), and, assuming that you phone boots fine then, try applying the OTA update. If you don't have a full system backup you may have to make sure you have a backup of your EFS and Persist and flash a copy of nougat (per my earlier post) - since I don't think a full rom of oreo is available yet - and then proceed with the OTA update. Unfortunately, this will require reinstalling and customizing all of your apps again.

Can I really update this OTA zip via ADB sideload??? I have to asked you whether its firmware or OTA update
thank you dear

I'm not sure how Lenovo Moto assistant applies the rescue but if you have the nougat file from Lenovo Moto assistant you can use that to fastboot flash it and see the results of applying each part of it to see if anything fails to apply. I don't know if you are familiar with fastboot flashing but you have to extract the files from the recovery zip that LMA downloaded and run a string of commands to do the flash. Here is an example of the commands that you can use to create a bat file:

@Echo off TITLE Automated Script for flashing MotoG5 plus

@ECHO Press any key to Start Flashing

pause fastboot oem fb_mode_set fastboot flash partition gpt.bin fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img fastboot flash logo logo.bin fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot flash recovery recovery.img fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin fastboot flash oem oem.img fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0 fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1 fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2 fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3 fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4 fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin fastboot erase modemst1 fastboot erase modemst2 fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn fastboot erase cache fastboot erase userdata fastboot erase customize fastboot erase clogo fastboot oem fb_mode_clear fastboot reboot pause exit

And yes, you can side load the OTA update. That's how I found out what was going wrong when I tried to install it. Instead of just getting an "update failed to apply" message that I got when doing a normal update, the side load gave me actual error info that told me what went wrong!

The zip file for g5 is too small. Only 148 mb or something

Because it's the OTA, not the fastboot flashable ROM.

2ear when i want to open my bootloader and

We're getting beyond my level of knowledge, but I wonder if you can resolve this by downloading the latest copy of twrp and doing a fastboot boot of the twrp.img. Then see if you can set 'allow oem unlock' from there and recover your system.

Why are you talking about fastboot or anything else not relating to this update, anyone reading will think it's way more complicated than the thread was intended to be. There is a specific thread for your problem where you may get better fastboot info for the G5plus. Regards

Can i flash it via adb sideload on Retin XT1686

No, this is an OTA update. These updates are supposed to be in your internal storage and than installed like any other OTA by the Motorola update service on your device. Your problem is that you forgot to activate the OEM unlock toggle in developer settings so your bootloader is still locked. You can only do things that are possible with a locked bootloader. Try to flash a full fastboot ROM or try Lenovo Smart Assistant, there's a thread about it.

Sounds like you got bootloader unlocked. Do you have a copy of the retin full ROM to flash? The ROM I had pointed to earlier is the U.S. ROM (sorry about that!).
If you can't find a copy of the retin full ROM did you try the one from your Rescue attempt?

On page two of this thread you'll find a full ROM :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5...fficial-moto-g5-g5-plus-t3848246/post77749377 Btw, the ending US doesn't mean it's a US ROM or OTA. It's not clear if his bootloader is unlocked because he's getting the " allow OEM unlock" message. This toggle has to be activated in developer options.

I flashed onto my g5+ for Italy the OTA, everything works perfectly. Seldom it fails to detect the SIM, a reboot solves it

worked perfect on reteu XT1685 bought in germany.

Yeah, stay on 93-14. Don't upgrade to 93-18 like I did. You can get the Oreo update via the package if you're on 93-14, but you can't if you're on 93-18.

On that note, anyone knows if we could see a package that's compatible with 93-18 in the future?

If so, I'm still staying on 93-14 for now. My battery life doesn't always make it through the day, so I'm not making it much worse for a minor security patch. I'll just deal with having to update twice to get to Oreo...

Custom Oreo to Stock Oreo, possible? Hello. I received Oreo update last month on my G5 Plus and then decided to unlock bootloader and try custom ROMs. Before flashing the custom ROM (Oreo PE), I made a backup of all the folders using the following command- C:\adb>adb backup --twrp which resulted in an 11.2 gb (backup.ab) file. I'm now running Oreo Pixel Experience but would like to go back to stock Oreo, lock bootloader and receive OTA updates. Is it possible using this file? I tried restoring the backup file but, ended up in the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen.

Note: My IMEI is intact and I don't have any VoLTE/signal related problems. I used TWRP 3.2.3 to backup the boot, efs and persist onto external SD card but did that only after installing Oreo PE.

How to update moto g5 with build number NPPS25.137-93-14

Update to 93-14, or from 93-14 to Oreo? If you're going from 93-14 to Oreo, check for updates, install 93-18, then check for updates again, and it should be there.

I am going from 93-14 to oreo but when i check for update then its showing your device software is up to date. So how i update it first to 93-18 then to oreo

Is there a way to convert the Blur version to a regular Zip file? The phone is rooted cannot use the blur version.

No, you need a complete fastboot ROM, the Blur file is just an update. Depending on your region there is a Oreo fastboot ROM here in this thread (I think it's for retin): Otherwise flash latest available nougat firmware (93-14) via fastboot, take the OTAs up to Oreo and root your device again. Backup all your data before as it will be lost and also make a full nandroid backup incl. persist, EFS, system and everything else in TWRP.

Thanks Wolfcity. That's what I was trying to avoid having to do.

I already update my moto g5 plus with OTA to Oreo 8.1 build number OPSS28.85-13-3 (indian version xt1686). Can anyone help me to root my device??

OTAs do NOT work after pre-release Blur install -- help I installed the pre-release Blur file to an XT1687 (Sprint G5 Plus) which got me to Oreo 8.1 (August). Contrary to the thread, future OTA's did NOT work -- and they work on an identical phone which waited for the normal push. Phones are NOT rooted and never have been. I downloaded the OPSS28.85-17-2 stock file. It will not update with ADB SIDELOAD -- it says 0.00% uploaded and gives no error message. The zip is fine, you can click on it and view the contents -- it is NOT corrupted and it exists within the Android Platform-Tools directory. Since the phone is not rooted, I can't do an ADB Push. This feels like the pre-release update orphaned me into a situation where I just can't load anything now. Can anyone help with some instructions to get back on a true, factory firmware so that OTA's work again -- preferably without losing the phone's entire setup

FYI the LMSA tool also does not work (which is scary) -- it says "device unsupported"

How to fix updates after Blur file on XT1687 I'm going to answer my own question here. After a lot of looking, I found this file:

https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904015899

Regardless of the fact that it is labelled "05-OTA_Package_OPS28.85-13.zip" what it really is is an OTA update that takes the phone from 28.85-13 to 28.85-17 (August 2018 to September 2018) and, apparently, gets the phone out of "soak". To install, do the usual of putting the phone in recovery mode (vol down and power), select recovery, hold power while tapping vol up and then choose "install update from adb" plug phone in From a command prompt type this: adb sideload "05-OTA_Package . . . " (the stuff in quotes is either the name above or something simpler chosen by you when you renamed it. The file has to exist in the adb directory on your computer.

Following this, my phone was at 28.85-17 (September) and it then properly found the October security patch to take it to 28.85-17-2

If you have already updated but still want to save the ROM - use the LMSA rescue mode to download the full ROM. I have saved the last Oreo update OPSS28.85-17-4. Once the download started I disconnected the phone and when download was complete moved the ROM into a different folder. Now if something happens I can Fastboot the 17-4.

Hi, I think I messed my Moto G5 Plus up a little. I have a stock, non rooted, booloader locked G5 Plus. Last October I've update with an OTA.zip by putting it on the Phone and running the update manager. I think I've got the wrong region, because my Moto G5 is on reteu and I installed something with 28.85-17.
Now I'm stuck there and the phone won't upgrade through OTA and even the file from this thread didn't solve the issue. How can I get back to stock / OTA capable FW with December Patch (OPS28.85-13-5)?

Thx, bigtreiber

Like written in the post quoted by @BartKey: Just flash OPS28.85-13-5 (or if you don't find it 13-3 and take the OTA to 13-5) and omit the line erase userdata

No need to lock the BL.

That's what magisk hide is for. You can hide these kind of apps and also the whole Magisk Manager by repacking it with a random paket name.
But that's just for users who want or need to root their device.

Disagree. While it's main task is root management, the SafetyNet fix is useful for many others. And some add-on modules can help even more.

Just set Magisk to never grant root and hide it from apps as needed.

I'm using Magisk since SuperSU has been abandoned and sold to Coding Code after Chainfire's retirement and I know the advantages of it. You misunderstood me, the only thing I wanted to say was that there are possibilities to hide several things from curious apps with the help of Magisk but to use them you have to root your device. There are some users out there who don't want to root out of security concerns so I just wanted to make clear that you can't have one without the other.

Not that canard again... If you want to run custom ROMs and unlocked boot loaders fir the freedom they provide you need to use the tools available to workaround Google's ill conceived "security" methods. I know of no instance where root was granted when the manager was set to deny (or you said no when prompted).

And it always comes from people that have had root (administrator) privileges on their PC for years.

This is Oreo firmware, I think you posted that you're on Oreo in another thread. Don't downgrade your device to a lower firmware than the one that's running on it. For Oreo there are mainly two firmwares for 8.1, the ones ending on 13-x for Europe/India and most other countries and the ones ending on 17-x for the US.

You won't be able to receive any OTA updates after that but as the February security patch was the last update from Motorola that's not a big deal.

Reactions: Buell301

As I posted your other thread, you want to check to see if it's actually a xt1687, the US version. If not, you need to return it wherever you bought it. If it is a 1687, then flash proper firmware.

In addition to the above posts, I've had a look at the Moto G5 Plus spec sheet for the Indian variant https://www.motorola.in/products/moto-g-plus-gen-5 and I don't see CDMA listed under networks. As far as I understand, Verizon is CDMA only for calls, so regardless of firmware/baseband, your device may not have the necessary radios to even connect.

You may have to switch to a XT1687 as riggerman0421 suggested, or try AT&T or T-Mobile (who are both GSM carriers).

Verizon has had VoLTE for several years. Whether it's active or can be enabled is another story.

They plan to shutdown the CDMA towers at the end of the year and are not allowing new activations of devices that are not capable of VoLTE.

Thanks for that, that matches up with what I understand. In one of the original poster's comments, they appeared to have LTE, but as you mentioned, VoLTE is not guaranteed. I'm not sure if a firmware change would enable VoLTE or even if you could be whitelisted (if that's still active on LTE)? Curious...

Thank you all. Guess I'm SOL and gotta sell the phone.

Verizon got me into the Testing Menu and could turn off/on VoltE, but it wouldn't stay on. Probably because it's the Indian variant. Lesson learned, don't buy phones on Craigslist/Facebook anymore. I really appreciate your all's help!

The whitelist remains and they appear to have more than one now. The other post about toggling it in in the testing menu but it not working makes me think it's enabled in the account (good) but the firmware not working. Could be band support in general or VoLTE specific. Flashing the US firmware (some part of it?) may reconfigure the radio or there may be a real hardware limitation.

Either way using it on Verizon/its MVNOs is likely to be problematic.

I could sell it as is on Ebay and maybe recoup some of my $100 or flash the US version and see what happens. I'm torn, but it seems like my best bet is trying to resell it and being honest that is the 86 and it was bought in India and won't work on US verizon

First of all: Your device is Moto G5 (cedric) not a Moto G5+ (potter) or has a least a cedric ROM installed. This is the Moto G5+ thread, move on to the Moto G5 thread, your device isn't compatible to anything found here. When you're there provide some more information: -When your ROM is debloated where does it come from or have you debloated it by yourself? -If you're rooted which magisk version? -TWRP installed? -Location? If your ROM is debloated it's very unlikely that OTA (for cedric) will work, when the system partition got tampered by removing apps or services the OTA will fail. Two opinions: Wipe everything and flash a fastboot ROM. Flash a TWRP flashable ROM.

Good luck.

Sorry, didn't see that this thread covers both devices, my fault. Here are Oreo TWRP flashable ROMs for Cedric. It's the same developer like the one who made the ones for potter and these are pretty good:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/twrp-flashable-soak-test-oreo-t3827913

Read the OP of that thread very carefully, all needed informations can be found there. Make a backup of all partitions before proceeding including persist and EFS to avoid losing IMEI or 4g. The EFS backup can be made with TWRP, as far as I know there is no TWRP version for your device with the ability to backup persist but you can do it from your TWRP terminal with these commands: To backup:

dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img

To restore:

dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist

Save the file (persist.img) on a secure place.

I recommend a clean flash but like @NZedPred the developer of these TWRP flashables I don't own your device. As you're on stock nougat and not on a custom ROM everything should work out good.

Can i put the Feb. 2019 patch in the Aug. 2018 patch in Moto G5 Plus? Hello, I have one Moto G5 Plus from my mom, and I want to flash the security patch of February of 2019, but my cell has the August 2018 sec. patch. Can I just flash the last flash without flashing the Sep. Oct. and Dec. 2018 sec. patch? Or I have to flash all the previous patches in that order?

The thing is, I haven't found the previous patches without erasing the user data. I want to edit all the .bat and .xml to erase the command "fastboot erase userdata" but I don't know if that will brick the phone, because my mom has a lot of data in the phone.

Anyone has December security OTA for retus (28.85-17-2)? Or any valid method to revert to reteu without loosing data?

OTA December 1st security patch (reteu), on unlocked bootloader since 2-3 days.

Just wait a few days, it will be released in your region too. No need to change the channel, it's only the security patch, no other fixes.

Probably is as you say, but unfortunately some month ago, when it was not clear that different channels still existed, I used this zip to manually upgrade from 85-13 to 85-17. Now since my device is reteu I am not sure I will receive the OTA given the fact that my device is on the "wrong" channel (retus).

It's not clear what was the purpose of that zip given the fact that moto continued to release 85-13 updates afterwards...

Ok, you're most probably right, the OTA updates for your firmware won't be pushed in Europe. The only way to get back on track is to fastboot flash the 85-13 firmware and after that apply to the 85-13-3 update or flash 85-13-3 and take the85-13-5 update which is just rolling out. You'll find the firmwares here:

The zip is fine, you can click on it and view the contents -- it is NOT corrupted and it exists within the Android Platform-Tools directory. Since the phone is not rooted, I can't do an ADB Push. This feels like the pre-release update orphaned me into a situation where I just can't load anything now. Can anyone help with some instructions to get back on a true, factory firmware so that OTA's work again -- preferably without losing the phone's entire setup

FYI -- the LMSA "rescue" is ALSO a dead end (which is really scary) -- it says the "device is unsupported" when the phone that waited is perfectly fine with that tool.

@Wolfcity Thanks again, in that case what about omitting "fastboot erase userdata"?

EDIT: I tried with the idea above and it worked like a charm, reteu, 85-13-5 (December), all working a NO DATA LOSS!

Hey...I'm in a similar fix as you were by flashing the RetUS firmware over 85-13(I have a retIN device)...could you help me out with the steps you did?..Aslo I'm hoping you did this over a locked bootloader? Cause mine is locked. Thanks a lot.

@Scarecrow. Yes, locked bootloader, no data loss.
Save your important data (safety first), download the last complete firmware .zip file (85-13-5), extract it, reboot in bootloader mode, then flash the files step-by-step using fastboot and the commands @Wolfcity suggested in the post above omitting only the "fastboot erase userdata" (I did not run the bat file, I executed each line individually), then reboot and profit. In order to verify if the procedure works properly you could flash the previous build (85-13-3) and wait for the OTA (I did not perform this check).

Glad to help. Maybe this procedure could be written somewhere.

Did you do the other erase steps?, or did you skip them all ?

You have to skip only "erase userdata" to prevent them from being wiped. There's a possibility of small issues as there may be some problematic files in data but this is mostly the case when flashing bigger updates, a security patch should not cause trouble.

Did you try the 85-13 channel from 85-17. I'm also in similar situation. Thanks for the post and files. Now changed my software channel from 85-17 to 85-13 with December 2018 security update without data loss.

Hello. None of those two links work for me. I neither can download the firmware from LMSA, it says device unsupported. Any other link to 85-13-5 stock firmware?

Thanks in advance.

Second link is working for me. Try again, it it won't work I'll mirror it for you. Edit: Sorry, you're right, the download stops after about a minute.

As far as I know this build hasn't uploaded somewhere and LMSA has to be updated too.

No. You have to be full stock and unrooted without any changes to recovery, boot, system and vendor. Best way is to fastboot flash your actual firmware, take the OTA and after that flash TWRP again and root. If you find the 17-6-2 firmware you can flash it directly. No need to lock the bootloader.

With the G6 line set to launch tomorrow, we may receive Oreo soon. Motorola does publish release notes weeks before rolling out updates, so the update likely won't come out of the blue.
You can look for the release notes here

motorola brasil has confirmed that oreo is in the final tests before launch (please see the second post for the translated text)
also motorola rumania confirmed in december that oreo is coming in april or may.. so with this information we can start guessing when the will it launch?

You will wait until it is released for our model. You need to go completely stock, but once you flashed pixel, unless you saved a backup of your stock, you will be better to wait.

May is getting near, Moto's work on Oreo for G6 family, E5 family, Z family and X family is completed. So now all they have left is G5 series. Keep looking for the May security patch release notes. If it me mentions Oreo, then we will receive Oreo within end of May. If release notes not released or doesn't mentions Oreo, then it may arrive in June or July.

Let's see what happens.

Obviously for Lenovo, business is way more important than being honourable. I would not even consider a Lenovo device in future, regardless of how much bang for buck it presents.

2 years of security updates on a Lenovorola device? Am I reading this right?

It's almost mid May and I'm kind of pissed that Moto hasn't released any news about Oreo update yet.

Multiple Motorola Twitter handles have stated they are in the final testing of the update. I don't expect they will really be announcing much more than that until the final OTA is ready

Also apparently MFN members are under a non-disclosure agreement about soak tests, so unless someone decides to leak Oreo firmware using a throwaway or something we'll be in the dark.

2 years security updates and 1 system update may not be too bad for a budget phone. However now that Nokia is going with Android One on 2018 smartphones (so far), they'll be getting my money next!

No way I could be bothered going through this wait all over again on another Moto.

Nokia certainly looks a good option for updates (as far as I understand, 2 major updates/3 years of security patches). One of the things I'm waiting to see is if there's an official bootloader unlock for Nokia Android devices - so far I've not seen the existence of the official unlock page.

Page 20

It's not real, these fake posts have been linked too many times, Motorola will not be releasing 8.1 for any updates to their phones.

so the X4 8.1 is just part of android one but not part of motorola plans right? i wanted 8.1 but guess at least we get oreo

Currently, without a soak test to base ideas on, it's difficult to say which version of Oreo will be received. Looking at the Z series updates, it does look like 8.0 would be the deployed version. That being said, for the G4/Plus, we got Nougat 7.0 for the Nougat update. Our sister device, the G4 Play, got updated to 7.1.1 after a long delay (I think due to writing of a device driver that proved to take much longer than expected). Still Nougat, just different flavours of Nougat.

So whilst the current trend from other updated Moto devices appears to be 8.0, we just don't know. However, I strongly doubt that Motorola would divert engineering resources to build a special 64 bit OS for the G5/G5 Plus, when the Z Play (with a SD 625) is also running a stock 32 bit Oreo build. I think the Moto G6 Plus may be the first G series device to be running a 64 bit stock ROM natively https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76453306&postcount=7 (which makes sense given you can order it with 6 GB of RAM).

both, the Moto g5 and g5 plus are getting Oreo 8.1, test complete, It'll be released around june finally.

yeah, i don't care about 64 bits, i just hope we get 8.1 to at least end the device support properly

Just got May security OTA update No Oreo. Forget it, we're not getting Oreo. Not May, not July, not ever. We've been left for dead. Motorola's strategy seems to be to kick the can down the road until our phones can be considered "obsolete" and "no longer supported".

My next phone won't be another Motorola, I can tell you that much.

Anyway, just gonna throw my 2 cents worth in here... Anyone heard of a beta or soak test going on? No? Me either... And this is what bothers me the most, from the time a soak test starts to beginning public roll-out is 45-60 days assuming zero issues, and at 20-30 days for every issue that has to go back to devs. Honestly, at this point if we see it before fall I will be surprised.

I've not heard of any soak tests going on either - usually, if there's a soak test, the XDA forums light up as users jump onto The New Thing (accompanied by various posts for help in downgrading or whether they can fix a hard brick after taking an OTA when downgraded...). Though Motorola might be building the firmware behind the scenes, I concur it may well be mid-late summer or later before we see Oreo at this rate.

Still, if the Oreo update comes out and it's stable, running well, it may well be worth waiting for. I don't know if the existing TWRP/root methods will work still on stock Oreo, but one way to find out...

Yup, that's the same screenshot that's been posted previously in this thread. As before, the presence of AArch64 for the Geekbench tester suggests that it was running on a 64 bit system, as does the 'architecture 8' in the identifier. Contrast that to the 32 bit Android 8.0 stock ROM result from a Moto Z Play (a similar device to the G5 Plus) https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/8375621 which is running Geekbench on ARM v7 (32 bit) and an architecture 7 identifier (32 bit, albeit running on a 64 bit CPU.) That suggests the 64 bit system is a custom ROM, rather than a stock ROM. Also, if it was running on a stock G5, why is it reporting the model number (XT1670) rather than the model name? Seems that most of the Geekbench results normally report the model name.

As an aside, I wish these news sites would check what details they're reporting/posting on rather than just posting for clicks...

Haven't dug into the other threads... I'm not really a hardware geek, so I definitely am not fully informed on all of those details. A little digging suggests that the hardware of the G5 line supports 64-bit, but is running the 32-bit version of Android. Perhaps they are testing 64-bit compile of Oreo? To explain the other "mis-matches", is it possible those are set by the software, and in a pre-release build they're using model numbers instead of names? Could the 'architecture 8' also be something that gets triggered by a software flag? Anyway, just floating some thoughts. I have purposely not been following this too closely, as I'm taking the attitude that "it'll come when it comes". I check in about once a month or so to put my ear to the ground and see what the latest chatter has to say. If I was super anxious, I'd go ahead and install one of the custom ROMs. However, this is the first phone I've owned that I've left bone-stock. It's just so good "out of the box" the "itch to flash" hasn't needed to be scratched for me on this phone.

Yup, as you mentioned the Snapdragon 625 and Snapdragon 430 are 64 bit capable chips. In theory, they could be testing 64 bit software, though if that's the case, surely they'd have also moved the Moto Z Play and Z2 Play, for example, (which now has stock Oreo, but 32 bit) over to 64 bit too? Why would they dedicate engineering resources to the G5/G5 Plus without considering the Z series, absent any other special treatment for these devices? Perhaps it could be argued the G5/Plus are being used as testing grounds. It's possible they are software identifiers, the Geekbench likely reports what system it ran on - AArch64 is ARM 64 bit, with ARMv7 being 32 bit or AArch32. Another thing to consider is that, as other members have suggested, a migration to 64 bit may require a full device wipe - akin to the Windows 32-bit to 64 bit migration. If so, that would be a pretty tough sell for many other users of G5/Plus devices outside of XDA or other enthusiast communities - granted, you'd get an updated device, but you'd have to wipe your device... A device wipe for a feature non-enthusiasts may not notice, not to mention these devices don't have more than 4 GB of RAM, so one potential gain of moving to 64 bit is not realised. Seems just easier to stay with the 32 bit architecture the device originally came with, not to mention re-writing and compiling drivers properly for 64 bit could take a long time (however, you could use that as an argument for why Oreo's not been released yet).

It's good to stay up to date with the latest news, just hopefully this has put some context on why the news, unfortunately, may be too good to be true, and a few reasons it may be a custom ROM, albeit 64 bit, that's being tested. It would be amazing if Motorola came out with a 64 bit, 8.1 update, regardless

The Moto g5s+ just got an update to 8.1 announced so hopefully the g5+ will be soon after that. I'm really excited that they made the decision to skip 8.0, hopefully that means they're listening to customer feedback, although it could just be due to too many problems with 8.0 (not complaining either way). Motorola isn't the only company having problems with updating to Oreo. Just take a look at Samsung, most S7/S8 are still on Nougat, they had to stop the update twice, the A3 is bootlooping after Oreo update. Huawei is even worse. If you want more than regularly security patches and a bit waiting for a stable update you have to take some more money and buy a Pixel or a One Plus.

Early January I experimented with custom ROMs, specifically Pixel Experience. While I liked having Oreo, The LTE and VoLTE was not stable due to my carrier being on T-Mobile. And I never got the camera to work. Then I reverted back to stock ROM, and lost all Cellular/IMEI. Had to follow the guide on the forums. Wireless still not as good as stock originally was. Point is, do y'all think Oreo will fix the wireless if I'm using the modem bits from Pixel Experience? I've read that the G5S Plus is a 32-bit Oreo Rom, so I'm beginning to wonder if it won't be flashing new modem blobs. Thanks,

Wireless still not as good as stock originally was. i saw a comment that said that it depends if motorola modified the modem in oreo or keeps the same.. we will have to wait for the release to confirm that.

Any news about soak tests?

it seems we are going to receive 8.1 a month after the G5S plus.. they are already 2 weeks ahead of us in the soak test

But the beta builds aren't out yet, I'm guessing another week till the first beta build is released for testers as the registration has already started for G5 Plus

I received today June SP reteu

Reteu Greece nothing to be seen yet.

We (not me) should receive the soak test this week, the G5S took about 15-16 days between the release notes and the soak.. we already passed that line now

Hahaha, fun fact: My mother's Moto G5S received today the June Patch of 7.1.1.. The channel is reteu, as is on my Moto G5 plus.

Still on 7.0, channel retus, on TMobile in US.

I'm wondering how someone from Germany running reteu got the June security patch and I - from Germany running reteu - are still on the April security patch...

Hey, I've just received the June SP Update on nougat 7.0. Reteu channel.

It's dissapointing that the G5S is in soak test 3 weeks ago and we haven't even received it yet.. We won't receive official oreo in july and i doubt august..

If someone got soak test ota for moto g5 plus (potter) please capture it for others to update manually. Thanks

I dont care from moto anymore...i will wait until oreo finally comes out and will give this monile to my mom and will move to HTC again with HTC12+

We are now 1 month behind the G5S and we haven't got the soak test yet ... i really hope the soak is already out there and people haven't shared it yet..

It is unfair that the G5S (non plus) received oreo before us, i think it should be the plus models first the the normal...

Excuse me? When did the G5S receive the Oreo Update? As far as my mother's G5S is concerned, it stands still on 7.1.1 with June SP.

I changed my g5 plus by g6 plus 1926-8 brazil ... it comes with android 8.0.0 ... I did not find anything too much ... so the current android of g5 plus is good size ... g6 plus has just better hardware but in question of Android is same thing ? ... that is ... so much delay and unnecessary expectations ?

G6 plus come with Dolby Audio and no Dolby Atmos ?

That's what moto wants to do with us, They would try their best to delay updates so that we end up buying new model.

FYKI just saying, no offence ✌

If your phone works and does everything you want it to do, then what is the big deal? I don't understand this obsession with having the latest O.S. as soon as it hits the market. I am on the latest stock, rooted and with a custom kernel and my device runs circles around my friends and relatives with their $900 iPhones and Galaxies. Even browsing the Internet when we look up something I usually find it faster than they do. My camera quality is acceptable for the pix I take. and battery life/performance is better than any phone I have ever owned.

Yes, it would be nice to have Oreo and some of the features it offers. But I am not going to run out replace my phone unnecessarily just so I can say I have it. Neither am I going to bash Lenova because they don't provide to me. The mentality that I see all over these forums concerning this issue just makes me shake my head in bewilderment.

The big deal is they said that they will deliver Oreo and they are deliberately delaying release of Oreo for the sales of Moto g6. There are many things that are new in Oreo that users wants to try you can't blame users if they want Oreo l. Android p is about to release and our device didn't get Oreo yet. If you don't care about updates it your personal choice keep using stock ROM but don't tell others they are obsessed. It's 8 or 9 months since devices cheaper than ours gets Oreo update.

Personally I don't care about Oreo update from Moto I am running custom roms for months now and after using 64 bit Oreo roms stock rom feel outdated slow and feels like a joke that it is 32bit ROM on 64bit architecture.

And the features are? Picture in picture mode (offered by many playstore apps)which isn't working with the most important apps like YouTube? I don't see any relevant features in Oreo. Who knows if stock Oreo is worse than Nougat? Ok, you're on a custom ROM so you don't have to care about it.

As soon as a P pixel rom comes out and has the camera, network and GPS fixed i'm in and never turning back to stock.. sadly the camera is a problem with this device..

I almost agree with you, i am too running stock (not even updated single time, rooted since bought it, so no updates ), And mine is modded with xposed and root apps and i have seen many people's getting shocked by the features that are added after stock by modding and then they ask what phone is this and then i warn them it isn't how this phone comes and for the update the post you quoted is the only post i have made regarding oreo update as i know it really doesn't matter what we feel or think they will give update when they have to so crying or shouting isn't gonna help.

For updates, it concerns me as i am always eager to try out new features or how device could be enhanced with it that's it

Thx! i will wait to see if a normal P ROM comes out (hope so), i'm a little dumb and probably would brick the device trying treble for the first time

It pretty great that we can try Android p even before official release of Android p. Although it has some bugs but Android p is booting on our device at this stage is itself very great.

Devs are doing better job than Motorola. Let's hope Android p roms come out after Android p release.

Moto devs and their team must be enjoying coding one line a day hence the delay.

Any news of the soak test invitation in India?

Somehow I've accumulated five Motorola phones and none of them have received Oreo (USA). I think it's time to visit Swappa and sell them. Lenovo has let me down! Motorola used to be amazing for updates!

I'm mostly disappointed not receiving the update on the (Verizon) Z2 play and (Motorola) G5 Plus

Oh.Yeah. I'm taking about the plus. I was so excited that I read the entire article wrong. Haha. I'm just so eager to unlock and root, which I've been waiting for the official first. Hope it hurries and gets to the plus!

Help

You will wait until it is released for our model. You need to go completely stock, but once you flashed pixel, unless you saved a backup of your stock, you will be better to wait.

Hi. good morning, afternoon or evening everyone. I'm new to xda. sorry for my English. I support myself in google translator ... I would appreciate if you could help me or guide me to a post where I can downgrade the Moto XT1680 G5 + or someone who has achieved it. update my device to Oreo through the TWRP to the last version OPS28.85-10. in this post:https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5...o-twrp-flashable-stock-builds-coming-t3830482
I would like to know if someone can help me return to the stock and wait for the official OTA. Postdata: I have my backup of ROM stock 7.0 and also backup IMEI, EFS, FIRMWARE AND HOME .... first of all, Thanks. greetings from Mexico. Mx.

You need to flash the latest fastboot ROM depending on your region/build number as I thought that you could simply restore your backup from TWRP but I remembered that going back to stock from Oreo is causing trouble like fingerprint scanner not working and what not.

thanks for answering... my question is can I flash my rom fastboot NPN- 137.25 .... 7.0? Or do I have to update to android 7.1? since of 7.0 stock I jumped to the custom rom ViperOS which is 7.1.2. and from this rom I happened to Android 8.1.0 stock from the twrp .... but I can flash this rom without leaving my device as a paperweight? ... I want to install the viperOS again since it was great but in android 8.1.0 custom rom does not work for my fingerprint reader with no custom rom. I'm currently in Pixel Experience 8.1.0.

I've got some questions I can't really find answers to. I know that small updates are always incremental. Are major upgrades like Oreo that's rolling out atm incremental too, or at least partially so, so that modified system partitions would prevent an upgrade from happening? Also do you need to be on the absolute latest Nougat version to be able to upgrade?

Right now I'm on 137-93-4 to which I rolled back after a failed 93-8 update that somehow only partially updated my phone. Now I'm wondering is it my best bet to just reflash 93-4 clean, and ride the OTAs to Oreo (which shouldn't brick my phone as the downgrade was only one step down), or will I be able to just flash the OTA as if it were unmodified? And what's the chance of a full system images leak of Oreo?
